Because God cares. That's about as simply as we can put it. God cares about our neighbors because he knit each together in their mother's womb. And God longs to be in a relationship with each one of us in order to grant us new life in Christ - a new life that pours itself out in generosity, compassion, mercy and justice for the world God created and so loves. Our hope for the world is that everyone would experience this new life in Christ. It is to this end that we are a missional church. But make no mistake, we will not stop loving and serving others even if no one comes to experience this new life in Christ. We will be unrelenting in freely expressing love, offering mercy and extending grace - with no strings attached, and no demands of response associated with the activity. But all the while we are prayerfully yearning for our neighbors to know the One from whom all blessings flow. We are missional because God cares. It's that simple.
Weekend Food Program
We’re joining our community to help children at risk of hunger at Elk Ridge, Foothills, Mt. Meadow & Wilkeson Elementary Schools. Every Friday we provide over 130 kids with food for the weekend.
Quilting to glorify God. A small group of faithful women of Community Presbyterian Church meet every Friday at 11:30 to make quilts and other projects. Prayer and a passion to serve have inspired these loving Christian women to build a mini quilt factory. Quilts are not the only items being sewn. Hats and scarves are made and delivered to St. Francis hospital for cancer patients. Beads of Courage is a great program that provides colorful bags to kids who are going through cancer treatment. Lap quilts and wheelchair bags are made for our Veterans. This group also saves all fabric and batting scraps to be used for dog and cat sleeping pads which are given to the Humane Society. The list of donated items is long and the love that goes out with each item is deep. All material and batting come from donations.
Our deacons are an integral part of our mission in reaching out in compassion to the hurting among us. This ministry, which often provides various forms of emergency assistance for our community, is entirely funded by the benevolences we receive during a special offering on the first Sunday of every month during worship.
Our Local Outreach Partners & Initiatives
We have been planted at 152 South Cottage Street in Buckley for over 100 years for a reason - to love and serve this particular area. We think we ought to be an integral ingredient in our neighborhood's health, so we partner with several organizations that faithfully serve Buckley and the Plateau in a number of ways. Here are just a few:
Buckley Food Bank: we provide volunteers, food and funds in order to feed the hungry among us.
Backpack Feeding program: Elkridge Elementary and Glacier Middle Schools.
Loomis Memorial Clothing Bank: we provide funds and clothing (mostly for kids and youth) in an effort to provide dignity to kids at school.
Tutoring: at Elk Ridge Elementary School.
Community Thanksgiving Dinner: for anyone living in the area.
Heritage House Assisted Living: worship service every 4th Sunday afternoon.
